Indian Bridal Lenghas have been the traditional attire of India and the asian sub-continent  for over 700 years. It dates back to the Mogul Empire, who adourned their brides to be with the the most luscious fabric embellished with crystals/gold resham/diamonds/pearls.It really is a costume to be admired it demands respect and if made with the right fabric and embellishment can enhance the beauty of the bride on her most special day of her life.
It is made with a top and bottom or it can be made in a saree form but either way it is very popular for religious ceremonies or the reception party.

The most popular color for the 2012 Olympic year is purple, majenta, red, with contrasting embellishment to enhance the outfit.
It is worn by people from all walks of life and is available to your budget,so you can have it as cheap or as expensive as you like.

In India, the wedding rituals and clothes make the wedding as much as that of the bride and her groom. Both look their splendid best in gorgeous clothes. Not just the couple, but the guests attending the family and the relatives are often seen dressed up to the teeth. The bride is dressed up in auspicious colors, whereas the bridegroom is dressed to exude a regale aura. The bridesmaids and best men are often dressed in par with the bride and the groom. But they are toned down a bit because the day belongs to the couple. All the folks attending the marriage are decked up with gold jewelry including the bride and sometimes the groom. The ladies are additionally adorned with henna patterns all over their palms, hands, forearms, legs and feet. Sometimes henna patterns are replaced with different designs which are short lived and easily removable.

Indian wedding generally tend to continue for several days and new attire is worn each day. All these dresses and the color symbolize the meaning of marriage and the period that follows it. Indian wedding is one that gives more importance to details like different rituals and the various attires one wears to attend them.

Posted on September 15th, 2011 in Uncategorized by mahmuda

After the short dress  it is again the time for the long dress to come back in fashion. For quite sometime, traditional functions, weddings, parties etc have seen ladies wearing the short shirts, with parallels, churidars or salwars. Now, it’s the time to see long shirts, at times ending just above the ankle, worn along with churidars. Anarkali suits have come back once again. The latest fashion style to emerge in the market for traditional Indian attire, the suit is today seen making its presence felt almost everywhere, right from wedding parties to jagrans to everyday wear.

Anarkali style dress has originated from the Mogul empire where queens and princess wore these as a luxury attire, but today it is worn by ladies of all age groups.

Anarkali style churidar suit dresses do have a traditional touch to them. This is the reason why they are preferred on formal occasions, like wedding, festival and other ceremonies. The good thing about Anarkali suits is it suits from petitt to a healthy lady, the flare is adjusted, depending upon the size of the woman who has to wear it. In case of healthy women, the flare is reduced a bit, to make sure that it does not add to her bulk. On the other hand, thin women can go for as much flare as they want. As for the bodice, it is tightly fitted and thus, enhances the figure of almost any and every woman.

worn with churidars (a tightly-fit trouser, which has a buttoned cuff at the ankle and falls into folds at the end) and the footwear usually comprises of Punjab shoes or sandals As far as the kameez is concerned, it is figure-hugging till the upper torso and below that, it turns ? Anarkali suits is a frock and gets a lot of flare.

Anarkali suits usually come in flowing materials, which allow the frock-like style to have a free flow. More often than not, Materials like crepes, georgettes, silks and brocades are the ones that are preferred to make such suits. As for the colors that are most popular in the Anarkali suits, it depends upon occasion as well as overall weather conditions. While bright colors are opted for formal occasions and in winters, pastel shades rule the roost in everyday wear and the summer season

The Anarkali suits that are worn on formal occasions somewhat differ from those donned in everyday life. In case of formal suits, the shirt (kameez), especially its bodice, is heavily embellished. More often than not, the frock below the bodice has embroidered borders only. The work done on the shirts includes use of sequins, embroideries, stones and other embellishments. Sometimes, hand embroidery with beads and pearls work is also done on the Anarkali suits. The pricerange of the formal suits starts from somewhere around £50.00 and can go up to any limit.

Indian Colour Meanings

Posted on July 7th, 2011 in Uncategorized by mahmuda

India has long been known as the land of colour. It is associated with bold fashions that match the countries vibrancy. As with most cultures, there are some special meanings associated with colours in India and for centuries they have influenced what people wear at certain times and on particular occasions. The significance of colour in Indian fashions has lessened a little these days with people having much more freedom in their choice of clothes but the symbolism still remains to a certain degree. Let’s have a look at a number of colours and their Indian symbolism.

Red:

Red has a couple of meanings but its primary one is purity. Red is worn by the bride at weddings and shows her intention of moving from adolescence and into womanhood. It is a colour used to mark a special occasion like that of a marriage. The red garments of a bride and other articles of the ceremony will ensure that it is a day emblazoned in the minds of the happy couple.

Green:

Green symbolises life, vitality and happiness. This meaning of life also associates the colour with fertility. It represents the fertile ground and is an earthy hue. Due to its meaning it is used a lot in festivities and celebrations.

White:

White, like red, has a number of meanings. It symbolises tranquillity and calm and that naturally progresses in to its other meaning which is death. It is used a lot at funerals and the traditional mourning colour of windows is white.

Traditional Indian Clothes explained

Posted on May 27th, 2011 in Fashion by mahmuda

Indian Culture is steeped in history and tradition. One way this rich heritage expresses itself is through Indian fashions such as Churidar suits and Sari’s. Let’s have a quick look at some traditional types of Indian clothing.

Churidar suits:
Churidar suits are based around Churidar trousers or pyjamas as they are sometimes called. Churidar trousers are fairly wide at the top of the leg but they narrow very quickly and become quite fitted. Churidar trousers sometimes have a set of buttons around the ankles that can be fastened. There is pictorial evidence that Churidar trousers were very popular in 19th Century India. A Kameez will usually be worn with the trousers and make up the rest of the suit. The Kameez is a tunic-like shirt that traditionally flows down to the knees though nowadays a lot of them stop mid-thigh.

Saris: Essentially, Sari’s are long pieces of cloth and in some cases they can be up to 9 or 10 metres long. The cloth is wrapped at the waist and then hung over the shoulder. The word ‘Sari’ means ‘strip of cloth’ in Sanskrit. Sari’s can be traced back to ancient times thanks to some of the ancient Indian poets who described their women as being ‘draped in cloth’ in their literary works.

Choli: The Choli is a blouse which is usually worn with a Sari. They have short sleeves, low necks and are cropped to reveal the midriff. They are usually heavily patterned and embroidered. In some regions of India women will sometimes wear a Choli with a skirt.

Kurta: The Kurta is a loose fitting shirt that can be worn by both men and women. They usually stop just below the knees and are traditionally worn not only by the people of India, but those in Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Nowadays many women wear them over the top of jeans. The meaning of the word ‘Kurta’ is ‘collarless shirt’.
